Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Community, Growth, and Impact

As I sat down for breakfast on 1st January 2025, I found myself reflecting on the past year—its challenges, its triumphs, and the incredible experiences that made it truly memorable.
2024 was a year of growth, collaboration, and meaningful connections—a year where I had the privilege of representing Albatross Cars at fantastic community events, supporting impactful initiatives, and engaging with inspiring individuals. Looking back, here are some of the standout moments that shaped my journey:
🥎 Celebrating Sports & Inclusivity
🏏 The Conquerors Cricket Team’s Journey to Australia – Watching a team we sponsor reach the LMS World Championship Finals was a proud moment. Their determination and passion were inspiring, proving that grassroots sports have the power to unite communities.
⚽ GAD Khalsa Presentation Night – Alongside the Deputy Mayor of Derby, I attended this incredible event celebrating the achievements of grassroots-level kids’ football teams. Seeing young talent being recognised reinforced the importance of supporting local sports.
🏏 Sponsoring Local Cricket Games – We also had the privilege of hosting guests from England and Pakistan’s international cricket teams, strengthening our ties with the cricketing community and promoting the sport locally.
🤝 Building Stronger Community Ties
🕌 Community Iftari at Pride Park Stadium – Organising this event in collaboration with Derby County Community Trust was one of my proudest moments. Bringing people together over food and faith during Ramadan highlighted the power of unity.
🎉 Possabilities Ball – Attending this event, which celebrates inclusivity through dance, was a heartwarming experience. Seeing people of all abilities express themselves through movement reinforced the importance of accessible and inclusive events.
🎁 Xmas Wishes in Motion Campaign – Giving away over £4,000 worth of gifts to the people of Derby, including Christmas trees, PlayStation 5s, cash prizes, food vouchers, and toys, was an unforgettable initiative. Seeing the joy it brought to families during the festive season was a reminder of why community-driven efforts matter.
🏆 Derby County Community Trust Awards Night – Attending this event allowed me to witness the incredible work the Trust does in empowering and uplifting communities across Derbyshire. Their commitment to making a difference is truly inspiring.
🗣️ Engaging in Meaningful Conversations
👮 Roundtable Meeting with Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts – Meeting the newly elected Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner was a fantastic opportunity to discuss community safety and crime prevention. Our conversation highlighted the important role transportation plays in public safety and how we can work together to create a safer Derbyshire.
🏏 Derbyshire County Cricket Club Community Iftari – Being part of this event reinforced the importance of sports clubs embracing cultural diversity and engaging with the wider community.
🎬🍿A Proud Moment in Media
📺 ‘The Footballer Fraudster’ on Netflix – Being involved in this gripping Netflix documentary, which peaked at number 4 in the UK, was a career highlight. As part of Albatross Cars, I was proud to contribute to a story that delves into the darker side of professional football, shedding light on deception within the sport.
