Strengthening Community Safety: A Roundtable Discussion with Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner
⏰ Read time: 2 minutes
Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a roundtable meeting with Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts, the newly elected Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner. It was an insightful and engaging session where Nicolle introduced herself, listened to our policing priorities, and encouraged open discussions on community safety and crime prevention.
🦺 A Collaborative Approach to Public Safety
One of the key takeaways from the meeting was Nicolle’s commitment to working closely with businesses, organisations, and community stakeholders to shape Derbyshire’s police and crime plan. Safety is a shared responsibility, and it was encouraging to see such a proactive approach in gathering real-world insights from those directly impacted by policing policies.
🚘 How Albatross Cars Contributes to Safer Communities
At Albatross Cars, we’ve always believed in playing an active role in supporting local initiatives. As a private hire company, we operate at the heart of the community, transporting thousands of people daily. This puts us in a unique position to observe trends, identify potential risks, and collaborate with law enforcement to enhance public safety.
During the discussion, we shared our perspectives on how transportation intersects with crime prevention, from safeguarding vulnerable passengers to improving driver safety. Some key topics included:
🚖 Driver and Passenger Safety – Ensuring taxi and private hire drivers feel secure while on duty and that passengers have access to safe and reliable transport.
📍 Incident Reporting – How the private hire industry can assist law enforcement by reporting concerns or unusual activity.
👮 Police Collaboration – Exploring ways to strengthen partnerships between local businesses and the police to create safer communities.
👀 Looking Ahead: A Partnership for Positive Change
This roundtable was just the beginning of what I hope will be a productive and lasting partnership. By working together, businesses like Albatross Cars and local authorities can develop meaningful initiatives that make a real difference to people’s lives.
A huge thank you to Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts for her openness, dedication, and willingness to listen. I’m looking forward to seeing the positive impact of our combined efforts on Derbyshire’s communities.
